History
Starting in the late 19th century, the development of electricity in Indonesia began to be increased when some Dutch company engaged in sugar factories and tea factories set up power plants for its own purposes.
Between the years 1942-1945 saw a shift management of Dutch companies by the Japanese, after the Dutch surrendered to the Japanese army at the beginning of World War II.
The process of transition of power back occurs at the end of World War II in August 1945, when Japan surrendered to the Allies. This opportunity was used by youths and electrical workers through delegations Labour / Employee Electricity and Gas which, together with the Chairman of KNI Center overlooks the initiative of President Sukarno to hand over these companies to the Government of the Republic of Indonesia. On October 27, 1945, the President formed the Bureau of Electricity and Gas under the Ministry of Public Works and Energy with a power generation capacity of 157.5 MW.
On January 1, 1961, Bureau of Electricity and Gas converted into BPU-PLN (General Governing Body of the State Electricity Company) which engages in electricity, gas and coke are dissolved on January 1, 1965. At the same time, two (2) companies namely the state National Electricity Company (PLN) as the manager of the state-owned electric power and Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) as the manager of the gas unveiled.
In 1972, in accordance with Government Regulation No.17, the status of the State Electricity Company (PLN) designated as the State Electric Company and as holder of the Electricity Business Authority (PKUK) with the task of providing electricity to the public interest.
Along with the policy of the Government which provides the opportunity for the private sector to move into the business of supplying electricity, then since 1994 the status of PLN switch from the General Company into a Limited Liability Company (Persero) as well as PKUK in providing electricity for the common until now.
